Everywhere We Go

At a time when football fans are consistently given rough press when travelling up and down the country to support their team, it’s always pleasant to receive some positive candour.

Check out this social media review of Spennymoor Town Fans from our hosts at Kings Lynn at the MSU organised trip to the Walks Stadium…

All to often we get to see posts of trouble makers at grounds. This post is to say what an amazing group of supporters spennymoor have. They visited the walks (kings Lynn) yesterday and sang their hearts out not once causing trouble or being offensive. At half time kings lynn had a parade of the youth teams and every supporter clapped and showed pure respect.

Massive well done to all associated with spennymoor if only more were like yourselves the league would be a better place”

Review of Match Day Hospitality in the Country Durham Lounge.

Having been given the opportunity to sample the County Durham Lounge Hospitality, I thought it might be useful to supporters, thinking about using the match day package, if we provided a review of the experience.

Welcome:

I arrived early before 1pm and was welcomed to the lounge by Moors in The Community Lead, Luke Cowie. I was given a lanyard and a free drink, before Luke provided an overview of what to expect for the afternoon. 4/5

Prematch Entertainment:

Complimentary match programmes were available on the tables and the TV screens were showing the days early Premier League kick off.

At around 2pm Moors all time leading goalscorer Glen Taylor was welcomed to the lounge for a brief Q&A session.

There was also a quick game of heads and tails to raise funds for the Moors in the Community cause.

At kick off you had the option of staying in the lounge to watch the game albeit from a very restricted view, otherwise a reserved seat was available in the main stand for all guests. 4/5

Food & Drink

There is a wide selection of lagers, ales and ciders available in draft, bottles and cans from a cash bar. Soft and hot drinks are also available. My choice for the afternoon was Hotwired Tuk Tuk a Pale Ale from local craft brewers Caps Off, very nice indeed.

Food was served at about 1:45pm, consisting of a thick gammon steak, roast potatoes, green beans and gravy, this was a welcome offering considering I was expecting something like pie and pies. At half time we were welcomed back into the lounge for a well presented plate of Victoria sponge, whipped cream and winter fruits. 4/5

Post Match:

The full time whistle allowed a return to the lounge allowing guests to mingle and discuss the day. We were soon joined by the players coaching staff, and club officials who took time out to talk to as many of the guests as possible, before a short presentation for the player of the match. Guests were free to stay in the lounge well into evening or to enjoy the facilities in the downstairs Neil Adams Sports Bar. 5/5

Staff:

The bar staff and serving staff were both approachable and pleasant and went out of their way to ensure guest were as comfortable as possible. 5/5

Overall:

I had an enjoyable day overall, and would be prepared to return for a special occasion in the future.

Top Marks to the Snow Patrol 👏

At around 15:45 on Saturday, all of these volunteers would be forgiven for wishing they’d stayed in bed instead.

An hour later moods switched from despair to delight after a quite remarkable comeback which was fitting reward to those who had set their alarms for an early shift of snow shovelling.

What is most remarkable is that Spennymoor Town supporters always go the extra mile when called upon.

All volunteers were rewarded by the football club with free ground entry, drinks tokens and refreshments.

Special thanks should be afforded to Hockings Butchers who turned up with hot pies for the workforce. 👏👏

Jason Ainsley Talk In

The gaffer, took time out from his match preparation to provide supporters with a candid update on the teams recent upturn in fortunes which he put down to strong dressing room camaraderie built around a locally recruited squad.

The playoffs remain the target and are now in touching distance in an unpredictable league, Moors’ recent form under Ainsley could prove vital when those positions are decided in late April.

All involved with Spennymoor Town FC are saddened to learn of the passing of former manager Tony Lee.

Ramage talks to Moors Fans

Former Newcastle United player Peter Ramage, surprised NASB patrons with short talk in hosted by Football Club General Manager Ian Geldard. This was a welcome addition to the standard match day experience which is usually only afforded to CDL guests.

Ramage spoke openly about his career and his current role within the Newcastle United U23 set up. He played over 50 times for United and we have him to thank for his part played in securing a loan deal for big Dan Langley.

Groundsman Mark Sleightholme leaves us next month.

Pastures New

I’m sure you will agree that the playing surface at the Brewery Field is a picture to behold. This is largely due to departing Groundskeeper Mark Sleightholme who has recently accepted a new role closer to home. Our loss will be South Shields gain. We wish Mark good luck and good health for the future.
